Former Tata Sons director Cyrus Mistry died in a road accident after his vehicle rammed into a divider in Palghar, Maharashtra on Sunday evening. He was 54 years old.

The accident reportedly took place at the Surya River Charoti dam on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway. Mistry was coming back to Mumbai from Gujarat in his Mercedes vehicle. There were three other people in the car with him. One of them is also said to have died in the accident. The other two who were seriously injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

This accident happened at around 3 pm around Palghar which comes in Maharashtra. The vehicle he was traveling in was of Mercedes-Benz brand. Which was heavily damaged although the airbags were opened. As can be seen in the photo below. He was going from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

He was seated behind and not used a seat belt. The speed was very high at the time of the accident.

About Cyrus Mistry

Cyrus Mistry was a businessman who was also a relative of Mr. Ratan Tata. His wife’s name is Rohiqa Mistry and he had two sons named Firoz Mistry and Zahan Mistry. He had Irish and Indian citizenship. Cyrus Mistry was born on 4 July 1968 in Bombay Maharashtra. He died in a car accident on 4 September 2022.

A career in the Tata group

Mistry joined the board of Tata Sons on 1 September 2006, a year after his father’s retirement. He served as the Director of Tata Alexi Limited from 24 September 1990 to 26 October 2009 and was the Director of Tata Power Company Limited till 18 September 2006.

In 2013, Mistry was appointed as the chairman of Tata Sons. In addition, he was the chairman of all major Tata companies including Tata Industries, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Power, Tata Teleservices, Indian Hotels, Tata Global Beverages, and Tata Chemicals.

The Tata Sons board voted on 24 October 2016 to remove Mistry from the chairmanship of Tata Sons. Mistry was removed from the position in October 2016. He took over as administrator in December 2012 after Ratan Tata announced his retirement. N Chandrasekaran later took over as the executive chairman of Tata Sons.

He held an 18.4% stake in Tata Sons through his company Cyrus Investments Pvt Ltd. Ltd. In 2018, his net worth was around $10 billion.
